Feed Cork is a registered charity (CHY13178), founded in March of 2017 by a diverse group of individuals that share a concern for those struggling with food poverty in their community. The team draws from a wealth of knowledge and experience with backgrounds in social care, education, business system, and the food industry. Feed Cork is devoted to addressing food poverty in Cork by providing food to families and individuals in need on a weekly basis for free. We team up with agencies, corporations, and local businesses to sort our food supply. Feed Cork qualifies for the EU FEAD food grant, which supplies nutritious non perishable food to us. Their generous contribution provides the bulk of food we distribute. To supplement our boxes with fresh foods, Feed Cork purchases dairy products, meats, fruit, and vegetables every week. In addition, Feed Cork cares about the food system as well. We partner with Food Cloud and conduct weekly pickups at participating supermarkets i.e. Tesco and Marks & Spencer, collecting wasted items but suitable for redistribution, which are originally going to landfill. Here in Feed Cork, we care about our people. Great care has been taken to provide more than a food box to people in need. Because the effects of poverty run deeper than hunger, a cafe is provided for everyone free of charge. It is here where Feed Cork provides a community and social dimension that alleviates more than hunger. A team of volunteers sit with and talk to participants offering a listening ear and support. It is amazing what a cuppa, a delicious pastry and chat can accomplish. We are conducting ‘giving back’ projects which allows our clients to work for Feed Cork as volunteers out of their own interests, which reduces the embarrassment of taking food for free.
