Treeline Project is rated 3 out of 5 in the category arts and crafts. Read and write reviews about Treeline Project. The Treeline Project is an arts initiative created by Oonagh Young and Mary Cremin, one of the only 7 successful projects of the Arts Council 2016 Open Call for its new 10-year strategy: Making Great Art Work. The aim of the Treeline Project is to create a green corridor on Dublin’s James Joyce Street by planting a variety of trees mentioned in 'Ulysses'. To create awareness around the project we are installing a single line green LED screen in the local area which will run the entire book of ‘Ulysses’ on a loop for the duration of the project. We are also organising a programme of events that will take place in a temporary pavilion designed by Donal Cofer Architects at Liberty Park on Foley St during the summer of 2017. This will be programmed by the artistic directors and will be used by artists and local organisations. By linking the project to James Joyce, who located the ‘Circe’ episode of ‘Ulysses’ in this area, we are highlighting this rich cultural heritage. In the long-term, the project looks at urban sustainability where urban trees play a crucial role as they provide economic, environmental, social, and health benefits. In the short-term, the pavilion's artistic and educational programme of events aims to foster social participation with workshops with artists such as Katie Holten and Seodín O'Sullivan and encourages local groups to use the space to hold their own events. Ultimately, we wish to promote ownership of the planting scheme within the community and advocate for Joyce’s rich cultural narrative.
