Barry Bessant, originally from Cardiff and a proud Welshman, now lives in Dublin. Currently he is a Director with CHM Consultancy & Training Ltd working as a consultant and training instructor specialising in Temporary Traffic Management. However, his professional career is varied and diverse covering a wide range of industries. From the late 1980’s to 2005 he worked in theatre, TV and film as a lighting and fibre-optic SFX designer/technician. Even from an early age he demonstrated writing skills often winning competitions in school. In his teens he came second in a short writing competition run by a national newspaper. Like most teens he was keen on music and wrote a number of poems and songs for bands he played in with friends and later bands that he managed. In 2001 he wrote a musical called ‘Vagabond of the Western World’ featuring the songs of Thin Lizzy. The musical was staged in the QEH Theatre, Bristol and sold out for a week’s run, receiving standing ovations every night. Barry is hoping to revive the show and would ask that anyone interested in seeing the show sign his on-line petition which he hopes will help persuade a producer to take on the project. In November 2017 Barry self-published on Amazon Kindle his first short book, also titled ‘Vagabond of the Western World’. This is a fictional tale detailing the legend of the vagabond as portrayed in the musical. He will shortly publish and license the manuscript for the musical. Barry has also a wide range of other writing projects in various stages of development, such as; several autobiography/biographies, fictional stories, children’s books and theatrical plays. Hopefully these will ultimately be published in paperback and hard back but their success depends on you.
